OUR STORY

When I was a child, I found a monarch butterfly on the ground and pressed it in between glass, a small relic of the being that had traveled more of the Earth than many humans do in a lifetime. As I grew older and started my own migrations, performing arts and social justice became a lens of learning, connecting with communities, and celebrating beauty. Kipepeo Agency is born out of a journey of encounters and a desire to build strong teams around artists so they can focus on their creative practices.

Kipepeo, Kiswahili for butterfly, strives to journey together through metamorphosis, so that artist and team work together to transform from a caterpillar full of potential through the cocoon and chrysalis, representing the molding of the artistic brand, to emerge as a butterfly, ready to spread her wings. Butterflies have also been symbolic of migration and we aim to focus on exporting artists. Our artists convey social messages, are open to breaking boundaries, and experimenting with different ways of creating their art. We are strictly anti-racist, anti-sexist, anti-homophobic, anti-xenophobic, anti-ableist.
